In today's society, what we look like online is our life and with nowhere to go what can we possibly do outfit-wise? It’s not like there’s any occasion, so what’s the point in dressing up? Personally, I find fashion to be a distraction from anything and everything. Oh! To be putting on this dress, that makeup, and those shoes. It allows me a moment in which my body feels exactly like my mind, almost in sync with each other as if that's exactly what my brain would wear if it had its own little wardrobe. For me, that’s the best bit about fashion. It gives you an outlet. So with a worldwide lockdown, what on earth are all of us fashion addicts gonna do about not being able to show off our “sickest ‘fits” to everyone in our lives? I thought the same thing, but then I began to explore and experiment! With no expectations from anyone at all, you can do, quite literally, whatever to you want! You could try mixing patterns, dyeing your hair a crazy colour or try some new and outlandish eye-makeup styles. (As you can most-likely tell, I have done all of the above. “How do you start?” Is probably the first question you might ask yourself. My advice, to put it simply, is to always Be Yourself. As much as you’ve heard it from everyone and their mothers, it's still the best advice in fashion that anyone could give you. This is because you, and you alone know what you love. I take inspiration from The Cure’s Robert Smith for tonnes of my outfits! If you’re still stuck, maybe start to look at some Celebrities or Influencers you love, and start putting some iconic pieces of their wardrobe into yours. It’s so so easy to find cute, inexpensive clothing on apps like Depop. This can not only revamp your style but also save the planet from fast fashion, which is a major problem in today’s world.

Now let's talk about how I put the above outfit together, to show you just how simple it is to get an outfit together, once you’ve actually got the clothes. For the base of the outfit, I used a 70s prairie white dress, which was bought on Depop, originally for my prom. Layered on top, I wore an off-white corset (again, from Depop) This not only gave me a lovely, pinched silhouette but it also added a unique vintage look. To bring it all together, I wore some Dr Martens to contrast the soft cottage look with something more alternative and grungy. But how can I do this? I hear you ask. My answer is, all that you have to do to, is to think about what makes you unique. Think about what you like. As I mentioned before, take inspiration from your favourite magazines, celebrities, and artists. Steal their look if you have to! You could keep them separate, or mix them together. Then you’ll come up with something that is really, truly, unapologetically, you.
